"Frimley Park staff gave me my life back."

About: Frimley Park Hospital (Frimley)

What I liked

I attended the hospital early 2012 for pre operative cancer treatment before undergoing surgery in Sept. Through all my outpatient visits and inpatient (13 days) care, the only word I can use is excellent. From surgeon and oncologist through nursing staff at all grades and not forgetting the domestic and admin staff.

I underwent major life changing surgery, but from the moment I awoke in recovery, throughout my stay in F7 I was kept informed at all stages, my pain was monitored and whenever I needed nursing assistance there was no delay. I am a very private person and used to being in control but the staff were so caring and mindful of my dignity that at no time was I made to feel embarrassed. As much as possible all stress was removed allowing me to lie back and let my body start the healing process.

An area that is often criticised in hospitals is the catering. Frimley Park has no need to worry about that I was very pleasantly surprised by the range of the menu and that food was delivered fresh and hot.

The volunteers that made sure that I got my morning paper every day deserve a special mention

As a result of the excellent care the future is very bright. I"m back home ready to get back to work in the new year. I cannot praise the whole staff of Frimley Park highly enough. The care, compassion and sheer professionalism displayed often under very difficult conditions left me humbled.

What could be improved

My stay was so positive that it seems churlish to introduce any negatives. If there was one thing it has to be the smell of smoked fish on the Saturday breakfast menu. The smell is so pervasive that it only takes one patient to order it that the whole floor is affected and that no matter what other patients have ordered it will smell and taste of fish.
