"I will always be grateful for the tenderness shown..."

About: Torbay Hospital

What I liked

My father spent 2 to 3 weeks in Dunlop Ward where he finally died. During his stay, I his son was sought out by the doctors to keep me abreast of their thinking. Father's final two hours were made comfortable by a nurse who stayed with him stroking his hand (he was profoundly deaf) and I will always be grateful for the tenderness shown when my father needed it most..

Dear Mr Grist,

Please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of your father. It is of utmost importance to us, when a patient is dying, that we ensure we do our best to make them as comfortable as possible and to keep the family involved in all decisions about care and treatment. We are therefore encouraged to hear about the caring way your father was looked after in his last hours and also that the doctors kept you informed.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.
