"Chief exec really needs to review this department."

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

What I liked

Nothing - The management of this department really needs to be reviewed.

What could be improved

Everything!

The appointment system needs improving as well as the quality of registrar training.

Anything else?

My father waited 11 weeks from GP referral to obtaining an appointment from the hospital only to receive a letter through the post just 3 days before the appointment to inform him it had been cancelled with no explanation or any hint of when it would be rescheduled. After spending half a day making various phone calls to PALs, PCT and ophthalmology department, he was finally offered an appointment due to a cancellation on the same day and time as his original appointment. The first explanation given was that the doctor had taken annual leave and then another explanation was that he had to go and work at another hospital.

Finally, after the consultation with the registrar we were left feeling completely demoralised and upset. The registrar was extremely abrupt and told my father off as if he was a naughty school child. My father was actually quite nervous and apologised to her during the consultation and she just ignored him. As an observer, it was as if she was giving instructions to a dog and not an elderly human being. The whole experience was awful.

We're really saddened to hear about the experience you and your father had. We would urge you to speak with PILS to help get a resolution that you're comfortable with, particularly so we can address the behaviour of the registrar who treated your father. Please contact them free on 08081 788 337
