"Abrupt attitude from a doctor"

About: Inverclyde Royal Hospital / General Surgery

(as the patient),

This morning I attended the hospital with a serious problem which I have been struggling with for the past 14 months. On arrival the nurse was comforting and polite towards me. I was sent a letter to disclose the date of my appointment and that I should arrive with a full bladder. So this morning I did so.

The doctor entered the room abruptly and asked if my bladder was full, I replied that is was. The doctor then continued the carry out the ultrasound scan whilst stating to the nurse standing in the corner that these letters should be made more clear as to what a full bladder is as apparently some people do not understand the concept of a full bladder and continued that if I was in a shopping center that they highly doubted that I would be running to find the nearest bathroom, as if I was not present in the room. The doctor became rough with the instrument in their hand, pushing it into my ribs when they were supposed to be taking pictures of my womb.

The examination which was supposed to take between 15 and 20 minutes lasted under 3 minutes. At the end of the scan the doctor stated that my results would probably be inconclusive as if my illness meant nothing to them and left the room as abruptly as they had first arrived.

The nurse then apologized to me for this doctors behavior and I left horrified, terrified and in floods of tears.

I am disgusted at the service received and will be placing a formal complaint against this staff member to prevent this happening to another patient at this hospital.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to provide your feedback.

I am sorry that this posting was not acknowledged at the time, we had a break in our use of Patient Opinion, but we have now resumed doing so, and I thought it was still important to acknowledge your posting.

You raised a number of issues that are of concern and I am uncertain whether you made a complaint, if you wish to do so, even at this stage please use complainst@ggc.scot.nhs.uk and provide further details if you want us to take this up for you.

Paul
