The last seven months my fathers life has changed dramatically. From being semi independent in his own home he is now in a Care Home. Having been through bouts of pneumonia and various infections and also a COPD sufferer he has been backwards and forwards to different hospitals.
His last stay was in King George's at Goodmayes in Fern Ward. I would like to state that they were marvellous and quite honestly saved his life, despite being 92 years old and quite frail and left in a confused state due to the different infections.
He was treated with dignity and respect and we were as a family always able to get all the information we needed at such a difficult time. This is not always the case in some other "institutions". He is now back in the "home" after spending three weeks at King George's but sadly had to be fitted with a "peg". We are hoping that the transition from hospital to home will settle him but we cannot sat enlightened for the care given to him by the doctors and nurses and all staff on Fern Ward. Dad is still a work in progress and it is important for families and professionals to work together closely to ensure a satisfactory result.
