"Husband's prompt treatment for chest pain"

About: Freeman Hospital / Cardiology North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust

(as a relative),

My husband, who is reasonably young, had chest pain a few weeks ago. First responder came and started some treatment and then the paramedics arrived very swiftly, both very swiftly after my 999 call.

After a short period of discussion it was agreed that they would take him straight through to the regional centre. Brilliant care in the ambulance as we made our way on a blue light.

Hubby was rushed away as soon as we got there to the angio lab and I was shown to a waiting room. The nurse was brilliant and sympathetic and gave me and my friend a cup of tea. Before I knew it the consultant was back to say he'd put a stent in and hubby would be all right. Within about ten - twenty minutes after that I was shown into hubby's room.

All through his short stay, both me and Hubby were kept up to date and I was never made to feel a nuisance for calling to see how he was or with any queries.

Hubby's discharge was straightforward and he didn't have to wait for his drugs either. Staff were always friendly and approachable. Brilliant unit.

Thank you for your comments regarding the quality of the care you and your husband received when he was admitted as an emergency to my unit. I’m delighted that you felt our staff took good care of your husband and yourself, that his treatment went well and that he was discharged home smoothly. We appreciate what a distressing time this is for loved ones, which is why we try to involve and care for the relatives and keep you updated with progress. It was very kind of you to take the time post your comments on Patient Opinion. Your comments have been gratefully received by the staff on 24/24a (Coronary Care).

Kind regards,

Joanna Atkinson, Senior Sister 24/24a
