"Grim experience.."

About: Manchester Royal Eye Hospital

What I liked

nothing

What could be improved

Better communication from reception/medical staff...

Anything else?

I attended the emergency eye dept after my GP advised me I needed to be seen urgently..I live an hour away from MRI.& am physically Disabled..Live on my own & need someone to drive me..I managed to get help from a family friend to drop me off..arrived at 4pm.then waited 4hours in the overfilled waiting area.My daughter came to pick me up at 8pm.I still had not been seen by the doctor.& when I enquired from reception staff member how much longer before I would be examined I was promptly told that their had been some emergincies so she said it would be a long wait.also the nurse said I may have to return next morning if they where running over..seems that the unit closes at 9pm..I couldn't expect my daughter to wait around for that amount of time she as to work the next day..so I left without being seen..so this service is abysmal..my eye condition goes untreated..I may take this further..see what the Trust thinks of this..

Thank you for your comments posted on the NHS Choices website. We were very sorry to learn of your concerns regarding your attendance at the Emergency Eye Centre in December 2012. This is not the level of service we want our patients to experience. It is, however, very difficult to respond to the specific concerns you have raised without being able to investigate in detail. We take all issues surrounding patient care very seriously and would very much like to hear from you directly about this. If you contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@cmft.nhs.uk they will be happy to take the details of your attendance which will enable an investigation to take place.
