About: Darlington Memorial Hospital

What I liked

Absolutely nothing. Nothing whatsoever.

What could be improved

I was taken to the hospital by ambulance, wearing only my pyjamas. I was on my cycle, bleeding so heavily I would bleed through any attempts at keeping myself clean, and my pyjama pants as well. After having been admitted and settled in a bed, suddenly the nurse came and got me and said I had to come with her. On foot, though I had said repeatedly I was struggling to walk. She led me, in my pyjamas, to the public waiting room and said I had to sit out there "like everybody else"! I had to sit on the bench, even though the only way to keep my pain level at a tolerable level was to lay down and stay very still. Within ten minutes I was sobbing from the pain alone. Not to mention the public shame and humiliation of being in a public waiting room full of people, mixed genders as well, while I was wearing nothing more than thin pyjamas. I was left there to sob and be stared at, for at least two hours (yes I was watching the clock, not just making up 'a long time'). When the nurse finally came and got me again she was condescending about the fact that I was crying (like I wasn't already ashamed of sobbing in public like that?), and expected me to walk after her on foot, despite previously stated problems walking. I'm fairly certain the chair had a bloody print on it from where I'd bled through. I was treated like a SUBHUMAN FREAK, just thinking back on being there I burst into tears all over again from the humiliation and shame and the way people were staring at me.
