"Good care on B5 at Rotherham"

About: Rotherham Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I was a patient on ward B5 at the Rotherham District General hospital last month for the treatment of my gall bladder. I was given good care from both the medical and the nursing staff, who treated me with a great deal of consideration. However, I did have some problems arranging for the collection of my medication when I was discharged from the hospital, so this could have been made easier for me.

Thank you for posting your comments. We are pleased that you were satisfied with the level of care you received whilst a patient at Rotherham.

We are sorry that you had some issues with your discharge arrangements and the collection of your medication. Generally speaking patients medication is ordered 24 hours prior to their discharge; this gives the Pharmacy time to prepare the medication. There are occasions however when a patients medication is changed within that period, or when a patient is discharged without this notice. In those circumstances Pharmacy try to ensure a turnaround within 3-4 hours; patients can wait for these or alternatively call back to the hospital to collect them at a later time.

We acknowledge that although most Trusts experience this type of problem, it can be improved. Rotherham FT has just begun a 8 month period of redevelopment of the Pharmacy service which should make the process faster and more efficient in the near future.
