My daughter had a heart monitor for 24 hours fitted by a nurse at Crawley hospital late in November. We needed to get there by taxi as she couldn't walk far. She was to carry on life for 24 hours as usual but after seeing the college nurse, the college decided that there was no way she was well enough to attend classes. We both went home and my daughter slept the whole time when we got back.
The next day I got someone to look after her and I asked a neighbour if they would take me to Crawley by car as I was so tired after taking the heart monitor back. I went to the finance office next to main reception to claim my money back for transport as I'm a carer and my daughter gets disability living allowance. I had all the benefit letters with me. I was refused. I got so upset with pleading I began to cry as I can't afford the long distances to hospital as they are so far away. The woman in finance phoned a manager and she then changed her attitude and was suddenly helpful.
I had to take a form back to where I had taken back the heart monitor for the nurse to fill in which she did. When I got the money at the finance office, she handed it to me up in the air like a big award. It was patronising and I felt so ashamed as this was in front of people waiting in the reception area. I felt some of them were now judging me just as people on benefits do sometimes get judged (even if they are a carer).
My daughter still can't attend college as she is too sick and keeps passing out. So I am now looking after her constantly. My main point is we have not received any test results from the heart monitor test and haven't been told how long we should wait. The GP surgery secretary said she has phoned every two days but still nothing has been received. I don't mind waiting but as long my daughter isn't put at risk.
"Heart test results still not received"
