"Can't fault the service at Lister Hospital"

About: Lister Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I was reluctantly sent to triage late yesterday afternoon. I was petrified but knew it was the right thing to do for me and baby. I have been developing gestational hypertension. At my midwife appointment it hit an all time high and was admitted with immediate effect. I was warned the unit was busy at night and to get some clothes and food before arriving just in case as we could be in for a long wait and possible stay.

We arrived in the in the evening whilst the shift was changing. I believe we waited about 30-40mins and was taken to the bed for monitoring.

I had my bp taken which dramatically dropped to a safe level which was surprising due to my stress levels by this point. I was hooked to a baby heart and uterus monitor for a total of 30mins which is done via pads and bands around your belly and had a monitor to press for baby's movements.

I then had blood work done.

The unit was very quiet and staff had a calm and friendly presence. I was very pleased with the care received from the midwives and the support when taking bloods which I hate.

There was a substantial wait for the Dr to sign my notes and discharge me which was a little frustrating as midwife said everything was fine, we had been there approximately three hours by now.

I was given a lovely cup of tea. I am awaiting blood results this morning, fingers crossed all is well.

I can not fault the team, thank you ladies!

Thanks for getting in touch and sharing your story. Clearly this has been a worrying time for you, but we're glad to see that our maternity team looked after you so well.

We'll make sure that thay get to read your kind words, but in the meantime we hope - for all the right reasons - that you have no need to see the inside of the Lister again until your baby is born safe and well!

We know that our maternity team will be delighted to read your feedback. Being pregnant can often be a worrying time, but if you're developing something like gestational hypertension it's even more understandable. So we're so pleased to hear that you've been looked after so well thus far - we do hope that it's plain sailing from here on!
