The below pictures were drawn by pupils of Heasandford school at the Safety Town Event hosted by Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust at Burnley Youth Theatre. The children drew pictures and shared their feedback collaboratively to show what they'd learnt from the event.

Because I went to Safety Town I know ………
How to use your bus card when travelling
That I need to keep exercising for 1 hour and when I am on my bike I should wear a helmet
I know how to save someone who is unconscious or gushing with blood
I know how to save someone who is choking
Alcohol is bad for you and can damage your liver
Wear seatbelts in the car
My favourite part of safety town was ………
When we wore those goggle that made you look drunk and see how it feels
When we got to play the games at Smoke Free Homes
My favourite bit was when we learnt about first aid as this may help me in the future when faced with a crisis
When I went to see Change 4 List (Health Improvement Service) and played charades acting out different sports.
I enjoyed wearing the blurred glasses and seeing how it felt when someone is drunk.

We would like to thank the pupils from Heasandford School who visited our Safety Town event for their wonderful evaluations and posters.
Safety Town is a week-long multi-agency collaborative event organised by the Accident Prevention Service, Children and Families Network. Pupils in Year 6 from local primary schools are invited to attend the event which involves agencies such as the Accident Prevention Service, the Police, the Fire Service, St John Ambulance, Safer Travel, Smoke Free Homes and the Health Improvement Service.
This list is far from exhaustive and other agencies are often brought in to match local need. In Safety Town each agency adopts its own scenario with the aim of teaching the children about a particular aspect of safety. Emphasis is very much on the belief that children learn by doing, and the scenarios are made as interactive as possible.
The children learn about safety by experiencing risky situations in safety, for example the scene of a road traffic accident. The scenarios last for fifteen minutes. The children are split into small groups of six and move round the different scenarios in a carousel fashion.
