"On the waiting list but feeling let down"

About: Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health

(as a relative),

My partner had a mental health crisis seven weeks ago regarding anxiety and the contemplation of suicide. they spoke with the GP and agreed to spending time in 'The Haven' adult rescue home. This was a very positive move for their mental health - and initially we received daily visit from a member of the Crisis Team until they removed personal contact visits following two weeks of being out of the home but still offered phone support should it be required.

However my partner procrastinates in contacting them over the phone as their response to an anxiety attack has previously been to 'sit down and have a cup of tea and call back in an hour if needed'.

We have yet to see the Archway Centre; both my partners GP and the Crisis Team have forwarded us onto them, with the GP referring to the Crisis Team, who in turn referred back to the GP - we have heard nothing from the Access Centre for seven weeks...

...until today, we received a scheduled phonecall believing it would be a telephone assessment. Finally some professional assistance that every other professional body keeps forwarding us onto or reassuring us they will be able to offer assistance.

We've been told my partner is previously on their systems and a priority on the waiting list with estimated four weeks wait.

Thus far in my view we've received no positive mental health care, no coping mechanisms or strategies and feel exceptionally let down as does my partner. We've been hoping this moment would be a positive step forward but as my partner said when they came off the phone, we can understand how people could deteriorate when this is the level of support they receive.

I am deeply sorry to hear that your experience has not met your needs. Lincoln Archway Centre provides a service for Mild to moderate mental health issues, with first assessments being offered within 2 weeks of referral.

I would very much like to hear from you so that I can look into the circumstances around your referral and investigate further.

If you would like to contact Serena Trevey, Team Leader, on 01522 340160.

“Thank you for your feedback of your recent experience. You described an initial positive experience with the Mental Health service in response to the referral made by your GP and seem to indicate you both felt well supported during this crisis period. Part of the Crisis teams role is to assess on-going needs and who is best skilled to meet these needs. In this case it appears to have been the Archway Centre where the Improving Access to Physiological Therapies (IAPT) are based and this seems to have been supported by an additional referral by your partners GP.

At this point the Crisis team appear to have discharged your partner with a crisis contingency plan for you or your partner to access them by phone if required for further support whilst you are waiting to be seen by the IAPT service. The Crisis and Home Treatment Teams have looked very closely at National and local feedback. We continually strive to improve our service and our responses based on what people who use our services say about it. Having just received a positive experience from the crisis team, with the face to face contacts, it is unfortunately you felt unable to access the additional support, provided whilst waiting to be seen by IAPT, based on your partners past experience. I would be happy to discuss any anxieties you have about phone contact with the Crisis Team. Craig Mclean head of Acute Care & 24 Hr. Services.”
