"feeling more anxious to go each week"

About: Devon Partnership NHS Trust / Adult mental health

(as the patient),

I was referred by my Dr in March 2011 to the Mental wellbeing & Access team for help with Anxiety and Depression. I have been on waiting lists literally continuously, I briefly received a few weeks of counselling which was of no help and so I was referred for more help. Another waiting list and a doomed feeling of no hope!

Im dissappointed with the lack of support on offer and extremely frustrated that I have been treated in this way ( 20mths ) I am currently seeing a therapist who is a trainee, its very upsetting to know that after waiting so long, this is what I am offered. Im feeling more anxious to go each week whilst struggling to deal with this overwhelming sunken feeling which is hard cope with each day.

You obviously have no idea how difficult things are for people with mental health problems to ask for help then be treated in a totally unacceptable manner. We are put on waiting lists upon waiting lists and we are assessed each time we see a therapist, we open our hearts and go through our life experiences, ups and downs, only to be told we are on another waiting list.

Through reading other stories on this website, I am shocked to find that unfortunately others have had similar experiences through this same service.

I found Patient and Liason service (pals) no help. I have already phoned them and I was told that they could make a formal complaint on my behalf and the outcome would possibly be a letter of apology? and that a complaint would help others as the Devon Partnership/adult mental health service would make the changes to improve their service.

Why is it, by me making a complaint, it will help somebody else? Its by far not good enough, there should not be these crucial errors in the first place. I have been advised by citizens advice to complain to the health ombudsman if I am truly not happy.

I have decided to stop going to my sessions, in 5/6 weeks? there has been no help or improvement just paperwork and questionnaires.

I cannot sit in a room with a trainee for 1 more week whilst they sit there and nod their head with a puzzled look on their face.

What reassurance or help is this supposed to provide?
