"Yet again - Thanks to Millennium Centre"

About: Halton and St Helens PCT

(as the patient),

Another trip to the Millennium centre/Walk-in Centre in St Helens proved to me that not everybody is ignorant to self-injury.

I have already posted a thank you to a nurse I saw to have stitches out.

Today, I had to see a different nurse, who was absolutely lovely.

Many times, when people ask the question "how did this happen", they don't really expect the answer "I did it to myself - I self-harm". Sometimes this can make people feel uncomfortable and unsure of how to react. Which then means there are awkward silences, and a definate uncomfortable atmosphere.

The nurse I saw today had no fear or uncertainty at all. I guess everybody is different, but what helps me is the people who are treating me, to not be frightened to ask about what I do. This nurse didn't make me feel ashamed or embarassed - she wasn't afraid to ask me questions and make sure I have the relevant support in place. She, to be simple, treated me like a human being... which, might not seem like a lot to many people, but to somebody who self-harms is usually a HUGE thing.

My experiences on the whole with the Millennium Centre have been fantastic and I have a lot of confidence in them - which is brilliant! I really can't say thank you enough. and I am determined to keep posting about my positive exepriences with any services I have contact with, because though it's important to focus on the mistakes and bad experiences, it's also good for staff morale for them to be praised... they are not praised enough and they need to be =D

Thank you once again!
