I've been a member of this Carers' Group at Ashley House for 5 years plus and have seen it grow from small beginnings to a highly successful group. I didn't realise just how successful this group was until I was invited (along with others) to a conference in Birmingham about carers in general.
We hoped to glean some knowledge of how to run our group better, how to involve more people and how to care for our carers more.
Well the conference was good, lots of eloquent speakers who had a lot of sensible and innovative things to say. However, I'd heard it all before; not in a derogatory way, but every workshop was advising on the things that we were actually doing.
All the medical evidence presented to us, we knew about; all the advice about helping the carers themselves we were already giving.
All I'm saying is that we have a great team at Ashley House in Widnes, who are so forward thinking, dedicated and a good laugh! And yes, we do have a good laugh in our group and we have meals out, cinema and theatre trips, therapies galore and much more besides!
All the members of this group, old and new, have much to thank the staff for, for their relentless work in getting the carers recognised as valuable contributors to society, both a money and labour saving device for the Government.
Well done guys!
