"long waiting in heartlands A&E"

About: Heartlands Hospital / General medicine

(as the patient),

me and my husband were disgusted by the delays in being treated at heartlands hospital. we had to wait 6 hours to see a nurse, then 3 hours to see a doctor. no apology was given to us. I eventually had a cat scan, which showed I had a mini stroke. we had to wait an hour for the results and it was getting on for 10 on the night, I was admitted at 11 on the night, shortly after my hubby went home. I was moved out of cbu at 2 in the morning to the stroke ward. we were disgusted at having such a long time to wait.

Dear Gold

I am sorry you had such an extraordinarily long wait in A&E and completely appreciate both how frustrating and, also, worrying this must have been for you. There have been a number of exceptionally busy nights in A&E which have not been easy. However, you're right, staff should have kept you informed and, indeed, apologised for the delay you experienced. Your experience has been fed back to the A&E team to remind them to keep patients and their relatives informed at all times.

I do hope that you were well looked after on the stroke ward and that you continue to make a good recovery. If you would like to discuss any aspect of your care with us then please do contact our Patient Services department on 0121 4240808 where a member of the team will be more than happy to assist.
