"Postnatal depression and Men"

About: Princess Of Wales Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a volunteer/advocate),

I've self funded my project this year called fathers Reaching Out... Due to my experiences of PND, and how it effected me. While my wonderful wife was getting treated, I had to deal with my loving son, bills, give up work for 6 months, household, hospital appointments but the worst was the isolation of mental health.

Depression is hard to talk about, but when it's at a happier time even harder. The stigma around it needs to be lifted, and people need more education about it.

After my first panic attack in the hospital due to not knowing what a emergency C-section was and to the doctor facial expressions..the staff were amazing but every birth is different. After unlaying depression since than had depression myself in 2011.. I don't want other men to go through this alone, and want everyone from health visitors to family members to know that the father needs support too.
