Dear NHS Glasgow,
I was recently unfortunate enough to injure my arm and have to go to A&E
I was unable to wash my hands as there was no handgel in the dispenser which was outside the ward, I did manage to wash my hands using the one inside the ward. I mentioned the empty handgel to the ward staff who said they would inform the housekeeping staff, I went off to get xrays and was there for some time, upon leaving the ward there was still no handgel available.
We are in the grip of some of the highest rates of NoroVirus for some years it, seems to me therefore, VITALLY important to have hand gel available for staff AND all people entering and leaving a ward. PPE is not a laughing matter, it's so important. It angers me a great deal to not have these facilities available.
Also I saw no signs to request people wash hands - such notices would remind people to take responsibility for health of the staff, themselves, and others.
Please I beg you to ensure that handgels and soaps are available and that staff request that patients use them. Frankly I am appalled.
