"Upset about care at Dewsbury"

I will sum my experience up at Dewsbury hospital in brief points as it is a memory I would rather forget.

So a bit of background, I was admitted through a&e for severe blood loss and dehydration.

*I went to a&e on a Sun for severe bleeding, I was told to visit outpatients in three days time for a scan as it was not 'serious'

*My illness was misdiagnosed by a doctor who said he was rushed off his feet and had emergency c-sections to deal with. He examined me for 2 mins, before he had to rush off leaving a nurse to help me clean myself up. I was left upset and embarrassed like I shouldn't be there. This resulted in my condition worsening in the next 24 hours and me being seriously ill

*after collapsing at work on the Mon with even more severe blood loss my partner rushed me to a&e. I could barely walk and kept blacking out, so we booked in and I was obviously not an emergency as I waited over an hour before I started blacking out again which resulted in my partner running to the nurses triage for me to be seen, I was then seen and admitted straight away as my blood pressure had dropped so low. The nurses even seemed shocked I was not admitted straight away the day before.

*I waited for over an hour in a cubicle still bleeding waiting for the on duty gynaecologist. There was an elderly man next to me who was screaming and shouting and making me feel even more anxious, my partner asked I be moved but I wasn't.

*I was examined by a doctor who did not speak English as his first language. I found this difficult to understand, meaning I had to keep asking the nurse to explain it all to me.

*I was admitted to a ward with 6 other patients and no privacy, the staff were nice however.

*the other beds were occupied with people who talked to each other out loud until the early hours. I was given ear plugs at 3 am as the nurse recognised how loud they were, maybe they should have been asked to be quiet!

*I had a drip inserted, however this was not done correctly and shortly after it came off leaving blood everywhere and a very painful hand!

*my bloods were taken in a&e, however, I was told these had been lost so I had to have more taken, which was an ordeal after feeling so ill and already losing so much blood.

*I was told I could not eat as I would be having a scan the next day, by the next day I was feeling very weak and had not eaten in 15 hours, the other patients were all offered food but I was not allowed, after waiting another 4 hours another doctor said a scan was not necessary and I was advised wrong, so I was nil by mouth for nothing!

*I was finally discharged and handed iron tablets and my notes for my GP, I read something quite scary that they thought might be wrong with them so asked if the doctor could explain this to me, a nurse advised they were on lunch for the next two hours so should discuss with my GP!

I feel sad and angry when I look back at my care.
