What I liked

Birchington Ward October 2012

Nobody likes having to be a patient unfortunately due to being diagnosed with cancer and having various other conditions I have had no choice this year and staying on Birchington ward after my latest surgery is hopefully the last one for the time being.

I found all the staff from the ward clerk, domestics, nursing staff, consultants and even the volunteers that delivered daily newspapers were polite, cheerful, professional ( a must in a gynae ward!) but more importantly everyone on the ward was treated with compassion and care. A clean ward and good food further enhanced the experience.

In this day and age people find it far easier to criticise than to praise and I would be very grateful if you could convey my thanks to all the staff for making a very difficult time for me more bearable....I know that they deal with these procedures on a daily basis but usually for the patient it is their one and only experience and the staff made each and every patient feel comfortable and at ease despite being very busy.

Thank you all very much.

What could be improved

Everyone worked well together but there is always a case for more staff .

Anything else?

Exemplary service and a credit to the NHS.

Dear Lesley, thank you very much for taking the time to tell us about your experience on Birchington ward. It is always pleasing to hear when staff provide excellent care with kindness and compassion. I will certainly pass on your comments to the ward team. I am also pleased to hear that you enjoyed the food, we have recently changed our caterers and more people appear to be enjoying the food quality.

I do hope you are continuing to recover from your operation.
