(as a relative),

A relative had excellent care from doctors and staff during a recent hospital visit. However the background organisation was not of this standard and it is amazing that the staff are so outstanding within a badly organised system.

On one ward when I left so that the relative would keep to the specified 2 visitors I was staggered to find the next day other patients with 7 visitors some sitting on beds, children running in and out of the patient toilets and children firing pop guns at ceiling of the ward.

I am not surprised that hygiene is a problem.

At one stage a ward contained 15 visitors for 4 patients including 6 children.

No good having rules which can be flouted.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to provide your very kind feedback. I was very pleased to read your positive comments about the care and treatment provided.

I am sorry that this posting was not acknowledged at the time, we had a break in our use of Patient Opinion, but we have now resumed doing so, and I thought it was still important to acknowledge your posting.

I was also very sorry to read your concearns about the number of visitors in the ward. Ward staff do try their best to enforce the exisiting rules not only from the point of view of infection control but also to limit the noise and disruption caused to other patients and visitors.
