I had my ovaries and cysts removed at the EDGH, which went well. There had been a very slight concern that there might be some risk of cancer on one of the cysts, although not a strong risk. The surgeon came to see me a couple of days after the op and said that he did not think that there was any cancer but that he had sent away samples to be tested.
I waited for the results, although nobody told me how these would be advised. I presumed that I would be told at a post op appointment, but nothing came through.
I visited my GP on a different matter some weeks later, who advised me that he had heard from the hospital and that all was OK and I was not going to get a follow up appointment.
I was disappointed that I had not been informed and rang the consultant's secretary to register my concern. I feel that someone of a different disposition to me might have been frantic not being told of the results.
Having received copies of reports of various treatments in the past myself (and my husband) feel that something as important as this should also be copied to the patient.
