"2 night stay at Royal Gwent hospital."

About: Royal Gwent Hospital / Accident & Emergency Royal Gwent Hospital / General Surgery

(as the patient),

Arrived at A&E at 5pm in October with a lot of pain from a double break of the jaw (sporting injury), and was dealt with efficiently and with a great deal of care.

X-rays were taken, and the doctor and nursing staff made sure that I was as comfortable as possible during my time there. I was also given all the info that I needed. I can't praise the staff highly enough, especially as I was there on a Saturday night.

I was then admitted to D2 West by 9 that evening, and told that I would be early on the emergency surgery list the next morning. My pain was managed as well as possible, and nursing staff were very sympathetic, although it was noticeable to me that they seemed understaffed - the ward was full, and some of the patients needed almost constant care. I am amazed that the staff managed to stay as friendly and professional as they were, considering the amount of work they had to do.

The surgery went well the following morning, and after another night on the ward I was sent home on the Monday morning

I have since had 2 outpatient appointments with the maxillo facial department, and have found them to be friendly and informative. It was good to meet the doctor that helped me when I first arrived at A&E.
