"Very poor patient attention at colonoscopy"

About: Westmorland General Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as a carer),

My Wife attended Westmoreland Hospital day surgery unit, for a colonoscopy, in November 2012.

She elected to have the sedation option, but apparently the doctor was unable to find a vein so after two attempts making severe bruising to her hand, he decided to proceed without giving the injection.

On completing the examination, which my wife found very painful and distressing he simply walked away without further comment. When a nurse eventually came my wife was told "to go and clean herself up".

Is this the way a lady of almost eighty is treated? Furthermore she was told to get off the high table as she might be dizzy, no assistance was given or offered. I would have thought that a patient having had two strokes could have quite easily fallen and injured herself.

I can only say I am disgusted.
