About: Derriford Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

i have had this problem for just over three and a half years. When i first saw my consultant he advised me on some exercises i should do,and told me to go back and see him after a year.My Gp wrote to the hospital after a year and then obviously i had to wait a while, before i was seen by my consultant again.when i saw my consultant in september 2007 he suggested a steroid injection, and had a night cast made up so i could wear that every evening, when i went to bed. Then said he would see me again in six weeks time.I had the injection and it felt great for the first week, then i found i was in agony one morning and could not even stand up let alone walk.So i went along to the Accident And Emergency Department.I had my first xray and was given a pair of crutches and told to wear my night cast for up to a week to see if there was any improvement, which there was thank god.And that my appointment would be speeded up to see my consultant. In December 2007 i finally recieved my Appointement for january 2008.When i went along i told my consultant about the problems i had after having the steroid injection and that i was not keen on having any more.I was given another xrayand my foot was put in a cast to wear for six weeks and that i would recieve an appointement in the post to see him, when the cast came off.I expressed my concerns of not getting an appointement at that time,to the nurse who put my cast on and she told me to ring the fracture clinic a couple of days before my cast was due to come off.I had to go into the fracture clinic a week before and have it removed because my leg was so sore.I saw another consultant there who was very helpful and he said he would try to arrange for an ultrasound scan.Which he did and also very quickly just under four weeks hooray getting somewhere at last.Just waiting for a appointement to still see consultant after having my cast took off. Before i got this injury i was a very keen runner and used to go to the gym.since my injury i can walk and even with that it causes alot of discomfort.so running, gym and any form of exercise is a no go.Apart from swimming in moderation.I have put on nearly three stone in weight and am feeling very frustrated.
