"Mixed experiences of breast cancer care"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Cancer Services (Medical Oncology) Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / General Surgery Dr Gray's Hospital / Oncology / Cancer Pathway NHS Grampian / North East Scotland Breast Screening Centre

(as the patient),

I was misdiagnosed at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary last year, and had to have both breasts removed. I feel the level of care I received there was atrocious and I was transferred to Dr Grays some months later to see the oncologist and breast care lady.

The difference in the care was unbelievable and made a huge difference to me personally. The breast care nurse, Corrine, was just marvellous and has been ever since, as I had a few problems, too long to mention and I honestly would not have been here today if it was not for her help and understanding.

I was there again for a minor op a few weeks ago and again the care was marvellous. I would also like to mention the team that did the pre. op. assessment, Jean was one, not sure of the other's name but thank you to you one and all.

You were great. I have not one bad word to say about Dr Grays. I only wish I had been there at the start of all the mistakes made in Aberdeen.

Thank you for taking the time to write to me about your care and I'm sorry to hear that you were misdiagnosed in Aberdeen.

If you want to write to me seperately about this Corrine can give you my contact details and we will be able to investigate this for you. We appreciate it when patients tell us when things have not gone as they expected as it's the only way we can make improvments.

I am very pleased that you felt we have been able to look after you so well in Elgin and I'll personally go to Corrine today and tell her that you have written to Patient Opinion to tell us.

I'll also go and track down the nurses in the pre assessment team and pass on your thanks to them as well.

Hopefully you won't have to visit hospital agian for a long time and I wish you a continued recovery
