"Embarrassed by Nurses"

About: Heartlands Hospital

What I liked

The surgery team were fantastic when I required Prostate Cancer treatment, They were patient and caring and I felt I was in safe hands.

What could be improved

The nurse led clinics are ALL provided by female staff. This is horrendous and stopped me speaking up about personal issues such as erectile dysfunction and to some extent my short term incontinence following treatment. In fact, due to the embarrassment I ended up seeking private help with internet help. It amazes me that the Urology department value mens dignity so little that it does not recruit a male nurse specialist for men with male health needs who would prefer (or require) male attendance and support. Knowing the nurses had 'seen it all before' as I was told did not help.

I cannot imagine female patients or the hospital would tolerate the same lack of choice for female patients.
