What could be improved
Fracture Clinic Appointments.
My 4 year daughter has fractured her ankle, and was given a follow up appt with her consultant 2 weeks later. I contacted the fracture clinic as the appt midday on a Thursday was causing me difficulties, as a nurse also, I couldn't cancel my own patients to come that day so needed to arrange a different appt. But I was told that the doctor only held clinics once per fortnight, so my daughter could be seen a further 2 weeks away? I don't think it fair to leave a 4 year old in plaster cast unnecessarily for an extra 2 weeks. They did offer me to see a different consultant or even attend Preston Fracture clinic, but again, this only offered another appt on an inconvenient date/time and this other consultant also only has fortnightly clinics.
So for Chorley hospital there are only 2 doctors trained to deal with fractures of the ankle and they only hold clinics x1 each per fortnight. What happened to giving the patient friendly appointments / choice? In my own practice we offer late night appts and Saturday appts to allow those who hold down jobs to attend medical appts.
I could have attended on the Tues or Friday or Saturday but no appts / clinics available on those days. Fracture clinics need a bit more flexibility for follow up appts. They were flexible seeing her in the first place, but after care is very difficult
"Not enough clinics / flexible appointments from..."
