"My partner's fall at MAU in Preston hospital"

About: Royal Preston Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a carer),

My partner was taken by ambulance to royal Preston hospital with breathing problems. He arrived at 3 pm. I followed in my car. When I arrived he had had a ECG and was on a monitor checking his oxygen and heart rate. I could not fault the attention he received while in a/e. My thanks go out to them because it was very busy at the time.

My partner was transferred to MAU at about 6 pm. Eventually got a bed at 9 pm. I stayed chatting to my partner and visitors in the next bed until 1 am. my partner by this time was looking a lot better. I was told later that day my partner had fallen. My partner explained he had pressed the alarm for the toilet but nobody came this was the early hours of the morning. He stated he must of been waiting for a hour, he knew this because he had his watch on. Because he did not want to mess the bed, he decided to get up to go himself and he fell. He stated he was on the floor for quite a while before anyone came, when they did finally come he was freezing. Then when they tried to put him back to bed - he was in lots of pain, and they weren't sympathetic to him.

I visited as soon as I heard. When I got there, I was shocked to see that my partner had a gash to his forehead and a cut on the bridge of his nose. He has been at home with me and gone to the toilet himself all these years and never fell. I feel they failed to look after him.

I just have to put this into action, as I am not happy with what as gone on. things like this should not be happening no matter how busy things get.
