June 2009
Fell off ladder and broke my right hip joint. Had a hip replacement at Derriford Hospital. Started Physio treatment in hospital- and this was continued at home. After being at home for 2 months I told the physio that my right foot was at 45 degree and my leg was twisted. Nothing was done. Physio continued which involved pushing legs wide apart.
Later 2010
Lump and swelling of pink skin at the top of right thigh and a lot of bleeding
First visit- at my local doctors surgery- I was told to keep an eye on it. No x-ray needed.
Second visit- at my local doctors surgery- a different doctor prescribed cream for arthritis- by then I suspected my hip was dislocated.
Third visit- I saw a different doctor again who immediately got on the phone to Derriford hospital and I was booked in to see a specialist and have x-ray. The surgeon showed me an x-ray of ball joint- my right leg out of socket and with infection over the bones in that area.
on my second visit to the surgeon we talked it over extensively and we both agreed because of my age (71) the best bet would be girdlston operation. The bone infection was a 2 hour operation to remove.
This left me with my right leg being 3/4's short.
February 2012
Girdlston operation on right hip. Its now short and I can't put my full weight on my right leg. I have to take cocodomol to keep pain down. Have to sleep in an adjustable armchair/bed.
