"Better than expected."

About: Kettering General Hospital

What I liked

I came in with a heart attack, the whole proceedure went smoothly, and I was well treated!

I expected the worst, but was pleasantly surprised at how things were in the heart unit!

There were plenty of nurses, even the food wasnt too bad, or not as bad as I expected.

I realize that the heart unit is probably high emergency, so perhaps there are more staff there, but for me it was a reasonably good experience, ruined by the check out system! We were sent down to wait for pills etc, but it took over two hours waiting to get them, and this if you are not feeling too well is unacceptable!

All the staff I encountered were pleasant and helpful, but some were stressed The paramedics were fantastic as were the staff on the heart unit!

What could be improved

As said earlier the dishcharge system is awful, some people wait hours for rides home, also the dispensary is overworked, and cannot complete prescriptions in a reasonable time.

I did share a ward with male patients, they were quite a way away from we three female patients, but nevertheless it was difficult at night when several men snored very loudly!

Anything else?

The showers are a disgrace, being hard to access, and very old fashioned, and worn out!

Response from Kettering General Hospital

Thank you for kind comments, the team endeavour to ensure patients have a good experience. We try and predict patient discharge time as much as possible to allow the team in pharmacy to prepare patients medication in advance of their discharge. I apologise if this was not your experience and we will continue to try and improve upon this aspect of our service.

The Coronary Care Unit is soon to be relocated to the hospitals ‘new’ Foundation Wing. The facilities in the new wing are conducive to attaining optimum levels of privacy for our patients to enable us to preserve patient dignity.

Thank you for your kind comments. Feedback is always welcomed.
