"Not the best, but not the worst."

About: The Whittington Hospital

What I liked

I chose the whittington for my maternity care. Unfortunately this ended in a 'missed misscarriage'. I found staff very friendly and sympathetic, but not good at communicating what would happen when they sent me home. Subsequently I was rushed to a+e having lost too much blood.

I also found the facilties, although up to scratch, to be like a rabbit warren or maze. When you are in a rush to get to an appointment it makes life very difficult trying to find the department, especially the maternity department which is located in a random part of the building which can only be reached by certain lifts (!)

I will not choose the whittington for my next pregnancy (if lucky enough) as I find it difficult to park and find the departments. If you live locally and have a normal pregnancy then I am sure they would be great, but in a crisis I found them difficult to deal with.

What could be improved

Design of the building.

Honesty and communication.

Response from The Whittington Hospital

I was very sorry to hear about your experience but do appreciate you taking the time to let us know what occurred. I acknowledge that the building can be confusing and we are currently working on improving signage. I was also concerned to hear that you did not receive adequate information. I will be passing your comments onto the maternity department for their consideration.

If you would like to discuss your concerns in person then please feel free to contact the PALS and Complaints Department on 020 7288 5969.
