"Clean hospital, majority are excellent staff,..."

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital (Harlow)

What I liked

The reception staff were absolutely excellent with me, very patient and understanding, they could see I was upset and were sympathetic

The first person who saw me to assess my blood pressure etc was also very nice.

Gynaecologist I saw was excellent, very friendly and understood why I was worried, was very thorough with her checks and gave me some reassurance.

The hospital was very clean.

What could be improved

I was left in the waiting room for over 2 hours after my blood tests without any body coming to see me.

When I asked the first doctor if he had any idea on the wait he told me it takes as long as it takes and walked off.

The second doctor was more helpful however informed me that she couldn't find me on the system - it seems that I was discharged after 4hours even though I was there for 5.5hrs.

The doctor, and the nurse that had taken my bloods could not find my paperwork either..

The nurse then came up to me and told me in the waiting room "it's fine you can go home." This is not very reassuring for someone who thinks there is even a possibility they could be losing their baby! I was promised a doctor would go through my results with me - which they didn't. I also was not given any paperwork for my scan (booked by lovely gynaecologist).

How long would I of been left sat there for if I hadn't been pushy and asked how long it'd be!

Anything else?

Left hospital feeling even more worried than I'd felt when I went in - no professionalism in giving test results, how can I trust somebody to tell me all my results are fine, when two minutes ago I was told my paperwork was missing.

Dear Gaga1234,

At The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust we work hard to provide the best possible care and to meet the needs and expectations of all of our patients.

I can see from reading your comments that there are some positives, but that there are also a number of issues that we need to address which are about how we provide test results and waiting times.

If you feel you have any questions which remain unanswered, please call the Patient Experience Team on 01279 827084.
