In August 2010 I ruptured my ACL while playing football, unfortunately it wasn't correctly diagnosed until July 2011 and I was placed on the waiting list for surgery in October 2011.
I was fortunate enough to have ACL reconstruction in June 2012 with Mr Siddique in Calderdale, he is one of the nicest people I have met and is a fantastic surgeon.
I was a bit apprehensive going into the physiotherapy group 2 weeks after surgery after having a couple of years of hard work with my knee. I have to admit, the service was excellent, I felt at ease from the beginning, everything was clearly explained to me and the physios (Jenny & the team) were so welcoming. I never felt like I was being ignored or missed, they always had time for me and I never felt like I was able to plateau. The exercises and routines they had set up were enjoyable, useful and progressing meaning they never felt like a chore and I always felt like I was improving my knee strength with every class.
My aim after surgery was to be able to play some form of football before I turned 30 (April 2013) and this past Wednesday I was able to take part in my first football training session in over 2 years (4 months after surgery). I cannot speak highly enough of the team and what they have done for me as before my surgery I was at a very low point and through the programs, exercises and stages of rehab with this class I have been able to build my confidence back up in my knee as well as build up the strength in my legs again.
If I know of anyone who has the same problem as me in the future, I will let them know there is no need to worry as the attending the ACL group at Calderdale, they will be in the best of hands.
