"30yrs of excellent treatment at Stoke Mandeville's burns and plastics dept"

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital / Plastic surgery

(as the patient),

I was 3 when I was involved in an horrific top floor flat fire, in 1978.

I was taken to Stoke Mandeville, as we lived in Reading and that was the nearest burns unit.

A doctor Bailey took great care of me, sadly he is no longer alive, a brilliant consultant. he saved my life that dreadful day.

I spent nearly a yr in Stoke Mandeville being treated for 45% burns to my face, rite arm and most of my torso front side and back.

I have had so many operations my hosp file is huge.

over the years Stoke Mandeville has become like a second home.

many of the staff saw me grow from a badly burned 3 yr old to a fully grow adult, and see me have my own children, they have supported me through the hard times of excruciating surgery, many of the staff I grew to know as my second family have since retired.

I am now a recovered badly burned surviver, if it wasn't for all the wonderful staff, that being nurses and and all the doctors and consultants I have seen over the 30 yrs I have been a patient, I wouldn't have been hear today proud to be a patient of a brilliant team that run the burns and plastics unit.

It makes me mad when I hear or read people moan about the hospital.

As it stands today, I am 32 and a mum to to 3 beautiful children, I am still having reconstructive surgery/treatment by my brilliant consultant, Mr Tyler, I can't thank this man enough for what he has done for me.

My last surgery was Aug 07, and everything throughout my stay went well.
