"Efficient clinic, little patient involvement"

What I liked

The proceedure was undertaken quickly and efficiently with the minimum of fuss on the part of the hospital staff. While I do not objective to the treatment being undertaken, I do have concerns about how little I was involved in any decisions.

What could be improved

While the proceedure was undertaken efficiently, there was no opportunity to ask any questions. In addition, it had not been made clear to me the purpose of the visit from the letter I had been sent, I thought I was going to be assessed and then treatment given at a future date. Instead the proceedure took place there and then, with no real explanation of what was going on. When I mentioned to a member of staff that I thought I had been there for assessment only, the response was "oh bless you", rather than a consideration of what had happened from the patient perspective.

While I appreciate that clinical staff do this type of work routinely, this was my first visit to the hospital and I felt more time could have been given to explain to me what would happen during the examination. In addition the after care information was given hurredly at the end of the proceedure. I would have prefered to have been given a leaflet to take away and read at my own leisure.

Thank you for your valuable feedback. We are sorry to hear you were not happy with every aspect of your visit but unfortunately it is difficult to act on this without further information from you. It is not clear which service you were using. Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust provides inpatient and some therapy services at the hospital, while most outpatient services are provided by Derbyshire Community Health Services. We would ask that you get in touch so that the relevant Trust can talk to you directly and look into your comments and concerns. You can reach LPT’s customer services team between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday on 0116 295 0830 or 295 0831, email customerservices@leicspart.nhs.uk or write to Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, Customer Services Team, Lakeside House, 4 Smith Way, Grove Park, Enderby, Leicester, LE19 1SX. You can contact Derbyshire Community Health Services patient experience team on 01773 525119, or e-mail pet@dchs.nhs.uk. If you’re unsure which Trust you need to get in touch with, either team will be happy to help direct you to the right place.
