"Caring, supportive and empathatic - in good hands"

About: Southmead Hospital

What I liked

The registrar we dealt with was very professional, described things clearly and to a level my father understood and displayed a high level of empathy. He explained everything at all steps and whilst it was a traumatic experience, it was handled with care and consideration for my father at all times.

Anything else?

My father had said it would be nice to speak to someone who had been through the procedure beforehand to understand all the things that happen, as somethings occured, which we told afterwards are normally, having this information upfront from someone who has been through it would have been really helpful - rather than always just from a medical angle.

Response from Southmead Hospital

Dear HMJ – thank you for taking the time and trouble provide your feedback about the care your father received in urology. I pleased that the staff were caring and empathetic and the registrar through clearly explaining the procedure managed to reduce the distress and anxiety for your father and wider family.

I note you comments about being able to speak to other patients who have had the same procedure. Confidentiality issues aside, if individual patients agreed to share this information it could for example be made available via the website, and I will pass on your suggestion for consideration to the Information Team and the Urology Manager.

Thank you again for your kind comments and I hope that your father is recovering well from his procedure.

Kind regards – Steve Sykes
