My partner Sarah was admitted to A&E on Monday evening 1/10/12 with serious lower abdominal pain. Her treatment by A&E staff was prompt and professional. It is a pity that since then when ever we think the service has reached rock bottom you hospital continues to surprise with even worse treatment. Sarah was left in a side room in emergency surgery all day Tuesday with little attention and allowed to become seriously dehydrated while remaining nil by mouth in case surgery was required. Appendicitis had been discounted and a scan was required. No action of information was provided Tuesday. We were later informed that the ultra sound department was too busy on Tuesday. Mean while Sarah continued to suffer considerable pain. Wednesday saw the arrival of a consultant with 6 juniors, who had no idea and was rude, condescending and a waste of time, When he returned later in the day and Sarah questioned his action his response was to turn tail slamming the door to her room! The scan finally happened Wednesday but was inconclusive. Three days in antibiotics were finally prescribed. Transferred to ward 2a. Left overnight with non-working drip started Thursday seriously dehydrated and still in pain. Little change during Thursday or Friday. Decided to operate Saturday so once again nil by mouth. Lack of anaesthetist on Saturday postponed operation, Sarah still nil by mouth. Saturday night has seen Sarah in considerable pain and worried sick that infection could spread further. Once again told operation will take place today. Still waiting! Will consider further action on Monday if no further forward. Unless you are dying avoid this hospital!
