What I liked
The surgery associated with a shattered elbow, which needed two skin grafts, has led to an amazing result. The ward was great for patient care, quiet at night, and I was very well looked after. I liked being in control of my own medication, which I believe helped the overstretched nurses and pharmacy no end. the food was good enough. Staff clearly cared. I loved being able to take a bath in a clean, large room close to the ward.
What could be improved
Getting medication on time was a struggle as demands on nurses/other staff time were high. Once I asked to take control of my own pain relief I became much less anxious about getting it on time. Food can always be improved (sandwiches really should be better) but it wasn't the worst I've had. The televisions were in very awkward positions to the bed. Given that these weren't free, they should have been better - television is a great way to keep patients distracted and calm so are more important to patient recovery than might be thought.
