"Poor experience of GP receptionist"

About: Kirklees PCT

(as the patient),

I had to re-arrange my appointment with the nurse as she had called in sick today so wasn't available for my appointment this afternoon.

I called the surgery. I was on hold for nearly 10 minutes to the 0844 surgery number. I was then greeted by an obnoxious sounding receptionist. She didn't let me finish my sentence or explain my situation. She then implied that it was my fault the appointment had been cancelled by asking "do you want to ring back when you are more organised?"

I hoped maybe she was joking about this but her tone of voice and her patronising bad attitude said otherwise.

I also went on to ask her if my husband could be told over the phone what vaccinations he had. This was for a holiday in a few months time (not the one next week which she "assumed"). To which she answered "well you’ve left it too late now".

It is nothing to do with her about why he needs to know about his vaccinations. Plus it’s nothing to do with her as to how organised or not my diary is. I phoned for an appointment because of a problem they had caused.

Her telephone manner was atrocious. She was rude, obnoxious and intimidating. I would recommend that this member of staff is re-trained on reception and how to deal with patients in a civilised manner.
