"Appalling, I am glad it was my second baby as I..."

About: West Cumberland Hospital

What I liked

Theatre and labour ward staff were excellent

What could be improved

Staffing levels and acute bed shortage on maternity ward was ridiculously low. This led to poor quality of care, obviously stressed staff, lack of patient confidentiality and privacy (due to location of beds).

Bedding for babies was the worst I have ever seen-it was old, on occasion unavailable and very cheaply laundered which made it starchy and rough. I had to get blankets brought in from home.

Due to the bed shortage the general consensus seemed to be to get patients home as quick as possible regardless.

Consultant led care was non existent, although in for a planned Caesarian I did not see my consultant for the duration of my stay and had no feedback as to how my surgery had gone (I had complications after c section which has not been explained)

Anything else?

I would like to discuss my experience further with a senior member of the hospital management team.
