"Not pleasant hope i never have to be admitted to..."

About: Salford Royal

What I liked

I Meet some trully amazing patients 3 of which i have stayed in contact with, since we all been discharged

What could be improved

Collect urine sample asap not 16 hours later

If nil by mouth and food is saved till after the test make sure patient gets it

night nurses need to slop ticking for meal if you have ticked for sandwhiches

clean up blood asap, i told 3 nurses about blood on the floor, it was only the day after when i told the 4 nurse it was cleaned up (10 mins before inspectors arrived on ward)

Check patients at night, and stop putting as for asleep when the patient is actually awake

try and have a regular time for super and night medication not 12pm when some patients are fighting to stay awake

speak to patient about test results, i found out one of my illness by reading the discharge sheet (i actually discharged myself)

Ensure all patients have a wrist band on

If patient is off ward for a number of hours make bed

Anything else?

i was admitted to Salford Royal as i had to have nurmours tests, i was a patient from the 6th of sept to the 22nd Sept, here are some problems i came across

1- done a urine test, told nure it was in bathroom, 2 hours later told a different nurse who just started shift, 16 hours later it was finally moved and i had to do a new sample

2- A nurse from a differnt part of hospital came to take blood from myself and another patient day after we was admitted, only to discover neither of us was giving wrist bands, she went to ask the ward staff, who then donre the bands and handed her the wrist bands to put on us

3-Nurses keep ticking for hot meals on the menu if you only ordered a sandwhich, when meal time comes and staff handed the meal out i old them it was not what i ordered they replied its what you ticked, 3 times i had to go without lunch and tea on the ward and go out to buy my own as the meals offered was things i disliked and sandwhich i ticked for was not availble

4- I was nil by mouth after 6pm due to me having a 7 hour test the day after, i was giving a pack luch but was food i disliked, i asked the staff if they could save the sandwhich that i had ordered for luch, this i was told put in fridge with my bed number on it when i came back to ward at 4.30pm i asked for my lunch only to be told it had gone, there was nothing there for me to eat only toast so had to go off ward to buy my own, also i had to make my own bed as it was not done, clean sheets was left on my bed just before i left the ward at 9pm

5-Night Nurses kept putting as for asleep when i was actually awake, watching tv or on internet, a few occations was off the ward with another patient who had gone for a cigarette.

6-had cannula put in and lost some blood which went over the pillow, the pillow was placed on the floor before pillow was cleaned a, this left blood on the floor i had to ask 4 different nurses to clean it, this was done day after 10mins before inspectors arrived
