"Very good."

About: Basildon University Hospital

What I liked

My Grandmother was in hospital for a long-term condition which she eventually passed away from whilst in the hospital. She never expressed any negative opinion about the hospital while she was alive, and always said the staff were friendly and polite.

When we were called to the hospital, as she was on her deathbed, obviously it was a stressful time for the family. The nurses on the ward were all friendly and respectful. We were in a private room with the door shut, and the nurses were helpful and obliging when we asked for the lights to be dimmed, and for my Grandmother to be allowed to spend her remaining time without her cumbersome breathing apparatus on. We were offered coffee and tea as we were there late into the night, and the Nurse was lovely after it was all over. She told us everything would be taken care of that needed doing urgently, and we could return in the morning to do collect any belongings.

All the Doctors who came in to update us on the situation were wonderful, didn't patronise us or sugarcoat anything, but were sympathetic and kind.

Anything else?

My family are all very grateful for the care my Nan recieved, and how my Nan's last hours were made peaceful, and how she would have liked it, quiet, peaceful and with the family around her.

Thank you for taking the time at what must be an emotional time to pass kind comments about the nursing and medical staff. Your comments have been shared hospital staff.
