"Long wait at eye clinic"

About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute) / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

I needed to have an eye test for possible glaucoma. I arrived at the eye department well in time for my appointment. I queued up (massive queue because not enough staff) and eventually got served. I was told I was in the wrong place and needed to go to another part of the eye department. So off I go, queue up again and then get my test, so far so good.

I then have to go and sit in the waiting room to see a doctor with the test results. Two hours later and I was still waiting. Some people around me who had the same tests at the same time got impatient and eventually asked a nurse what was going on. She said that the doctor hadn't turned up but the agency insisted that he was in the hospital somewhere.

Why couldn't someone have told us? What useless communication.

The nurse said they were trying to find the doctor and she'd come back to us in half an hour. Of course she didn't.

An hour later, we collared the nurse again and she finally told us that the hospital manager was trying to get another doctor. Again no pro activity by the nurse, we had to chase her.

Another hour later, and I had to chase the nurse again only to find out that no replacement doctor would be coming that day and I'd have to re-book. The communication was utterly useless.
