"Asthma medication"

About: Rhonnda Community (Outpatients)

(as a service user),

I buy my asthma medication through the Internet. I would get "free" prescriptions as I live in Wales. However, the GP insists that I renew the prescription each month.

This means physically visiting the surgery to make the request on a day not earlier than a certain defined date. After that, I would have to return two days later to pick up the prescription, then go to the chemists and wait. Even this rigamarole only works for three months. After this, if I want more inhalers, I have to make an appointment to be interviewed by an asthma nurse to give the same answers to the same questions that I have been giving since 1992.

I calculated that over one year the time eaten up by this needless bureaucracy will cost me close to £1000 in lost work time (I am a busy and successful freelancer). Buying inhalers on the Net from India costs me about £200 a year. What a ridiculous situation!
