"Excellent care at Tameside"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I have recently had surgery on my knee at Tameside General Hospital.

I have to say that I would not choose any other hospital in the UK over Tameside. After my first surgery was cancelled due an emergency my surgeon and his PA had it rescheduled within the week. I know that they tried everything in their powers to get this sooner.

The care that I received was second to none during my stay with the Elective unit at Tameside from the out of hour’s staff to the day staff to the surgical team and the anaesthetist.

I did witness on one occasion a junior nurse being verbally abused by a patient. Before I could say something to the patient, the junior nurse acted with professionalism along with the senior nurse on duty. I have also emailed Tameside General Hospital to highlight how fantastic the team that dealt with me was. I personally think these members of the NHS should be paid a hell of lot more than they do.

I have left out names as I know that a copy of my email has been sent to all the members who cared for me so I would not want to embarrass them. In my opinion everyone who works in the NHS are heroes for what they do and regularly go unnoticed.

Thank You Tameside General Hospital / Trust and the NHS.

Would you like to help the hospital to improve its services further? We are currently looking for patients and carers to become involved in a development called “Patient Stories”. We want to know more about our services from the point of view of those who received them – what was good, bad, what could be improved, what should be changed. Want to know more about what’s involved? Please contact John Goodenough, Director of Nursing at john.goodenough@tgh.nhs.uk
