What I liked
Not alot of the treatment that my daughter received during the miscarriage of her first child. On arrival I was expected to sit with my already upset daughter in a waiting room with still expectant mothers, some already with their babies and women with similar conditions. This added too the distress my daughter was already in making the situation unbearable. We were then ushered into a side room and was given reasonable care and treatment by the doctor. We were asked to return in a few days for further treatment.
On our return we went onto a ward where my daughters details were checked by a very flippant nurse who asked "what do you look so worried about" she clearly didn't read my daughters notes as to what we were actually doing there. This particular nurse was there throughout my daughters treatment and didn't put either one off us at ease.
It distressed us further to hear what I class as professionals discussing other patients conditions between themselves but loud enough for all to hear without any concern for the distressed patients who were in hearing distance, as if the already accumulated noises created on the ward wasn't enough.
What could be improved
On arrival there should be more caring professionals available that a waiting facility isn't needed so avoid having to share with people who have had successful pregnancies.
The staff in general should have more of a bed side manor and have more respect for the patient offering compassion after they have read there notes so they know what they are dealing with.
Patients who are dealing with miscarriages or still births should not be integrated with successful pregnancies either in the waiting facility or on the wards. he option of a private room to grieve while receiving treatment should be given.
An office or nurses station to be provided for nurses and staff to discuss patients needs and discharge and not the corridors adjoining the ward for all to hear.
Most importantly separate areas away from the maternity unit as to give the patient and family the same amount of dignity and care.
"Disappointing, emotional and overall bad"
