"Severe treatment of the elderly."

About: Royal Oldham Hospital

What could be improved

My grandmother was admitted to hospital after falling down the stairs. She has an existing mental health condition and was in a very poor state physically and mentally.

The hospital left her over the weekend in a poor mental state as they insisted that they could not access her mental health records therefore could not treat her. The suffering she has encountered this weekend has been disgraceful and inhumane. She has been left in an agitated state, she is not sleeping, eating or smoking (which is not like her!). It has been hard for the family to see her like this and I personally called the switchboard and spoke to the NHS management who said she would sort it on Saturday, yet nothing was done. Today we have had to phone up her community support team to go and see her in hospital to help her get the treatment she needs. Do hospitals not work weekends? Do they only treat what they can be bothered with? They should be ashamed by the way they have treated an old lady and left her to deteriorate mentally. Not to mention the suffering of her irrational thoughts tormenting her. I will be writing a letter to the Chief Executive. Its about time the ill treatment of our elderly stopped.
