About: Lister Hospital

What I liked

My previous experiences with Lister hospital throughout my 4 pregnancies (one successful birth) have been amazing. Great support from the EPU previously and good post-natal care after my emergancy c-section in 2009.

What could be improved

The pressure from the mid-wives on the ward after birth were very pro-breast feeding, which I intended to do, however due to being pushed so hard to feed my son (when he clearly was not getting enough) resulted in him having to go to special care for a day.

Anything else?

My comment now relates to my August 2012 experience.

I am currently nearly 7 weeks pregnant with my 5th pregnancy, and although I have experienced 3 miscarriages (one a missed misscarriage) previously, I have been offered no help from the EPU, like I was told I would last time.

I have been pushed from pillar to post trying to have a viability scan and have now resorted to going to Bedford hospital for this at 7 weeks 3 days. Lister would not see me (in their words) until I was atleast 8 weeks and as I was not bleeding or cramping they could not see me! Surely someone with my history should not only be offered this scan to avoid stress and perhaps getting to this situation, but also a consultant or specialist midwife?

I am out of area with Lister, but my previous care left me in no doubt that I would prefer to return to this hospital, however I feel utterly let down.

Surely I should be being looked after in this situation, and not calling and chasing my GP, midwife, Bedford and Lister hospitals to gain any information. I still do not have a booking in appointment date or 12 week scan date.

I feel I have been failed.

We're very sorry that your current experience has not been as good as you would have wanted. If you're willing, why not send us an e-mail to generalenquiries.enh-tr@nhs.net so that we can get our senior midwifery team to look in to what happened and why? In that way, they can discuss your care with you personally to make sure that any lessons can be learnt and that you get a full account of the result of their investigation.
